Bone Ancestor II
Chameleon Gallery, Hepburn Springs, Victoria
31 July - 11 August 2008
Bone Ancestor II explores the materiality of porcelain; its luminous properties, the fragility of the medium within the making process and the ambiguous surfacing of form.
This work presents a collection of parts, suggesting the piecing together of a lost history. Short texts scroll around objects like a series of incantations, codes or instructions. Words become obscured, permutating in a non-defined beginning or end. The chart references methods of scientific categorisation. Meanwhile, the bone relics pulse a milky neon glow. This coupling creates the sense of something strangely alien and unfamiliar.
